The club has a proud affiliation to the ROYAL BRITISH LEGION and organises and hosts events supporting them throughout the year. This includes the annual Remembrance day parade and service. This year it will also host the VE day celebrations and beacon lighting ceremony.
POPPY APPEAL 2024
We've reached £16,282 in the first four months of the 2024-2025 Poppy Appeal. The total for the whole of last year's appeal was £16,186, so we’ve already beaten that.
Collections in our local schools raised £2,203. Among them were Theydon Bois Primary with £451, Ivy Chimneys with £386 and Epping Primary with £370.
Street collections raised £5480. Linda Edwards stood outside M&S for five days in all weathers and collected £2,084. The Army Cadets collected £1,674, and the ATC £1,418.
Many local shops and businesses supported the appeal by having poppy boxes. The top 5 were The Hemnall Social Club who raised £269, the Black Lion with £246, Ashlyn's Cafe (at St Margarets Hospital) with £189, the Forest Gate with £179 and M&S with £166.
Thankfully plenty of people still carry cash around with them!
£2,807 came from donations for wreaths. As well as Epping, we supply wreaths to Abridge and Theydon Bois.
